Surely you have met someone (man or woman) with laces as a belt, and you would have thought “this person is stupid, he does not have money to buy a new, normal and current belt”, no.
As you have been able to observe in someone, white laces (mostly) are the new trend in belts. It is a somewhat summery element, but calm if you have just found out, since it continues to be worn.
If one day you want to try it, you can combine it with a pair of pants and a white T-shirt tucked inside your pants, or with long white linen pants and a striped short-sleeved shirt. Run to get those old converse laces that you have forgotten since last year to make a fashionable belt.
